Description

Ace Institute, also known as dual enrollment, allows eligible high school students to enroll in Gadsden State courses to earn both high school and college credit for the same course.  Courses are taught at Gadsden State Community College, online or on the Gadsden City High School campus.

Courses that can be taken include Math 112, ENG 101 and 102, BIO 101 (with lab), US History 201 and 202, psychology, speech, creative writing, workforce technical courses and much more.

Scholarships are available for students interested in certain career technical programs.

Requirements

Dual enrollment is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors who have a GPA of 2.5 or higher (cumulative/unweighted), a good attendance record and a good discipline record.  Certain math, English and science courses may require a qualifying ACT score or Placement Test score as a perquisite to enroll. (For example, students must score a 23 on the math portion of the ACT to enroll in Math 112 at GSCC.)

Students must also complete the Gadsden State Admission Application available (here), provide a signature page available (here) to admissions@gadsdenstate.edu and provide a proof of citizenship document such as a driver’s license, permanent resident card, etc. A dual enrollment form is required prior to each semester a student wishes to dual enroll and the form must be signed by the high school counselor.

Benefits

Some GCHS dual enrollment students have as many as 12 college credits before graduating from high school.  Others prefer to have just enough to ease the financial and coursework burden associated with the first year of college.

Through dual enrollment, students are able to pursue degrees in high-wage, high-demand technical careers that have position openings in our local workforce.

Costs

Cost for each course is the current tuition rate at Gadsden State, which is currently $136 per credit hour plus books.  Students approved to participate in certain career technical programs may be eligible for the ACE Institute Scholarship, which may cover books, tuition and supplies.  Application deadline is April 1 each year.
